1.  Got a great note via email from a Soldier who spent some months on Rear Detachment working in our S-1 section.  Poor guy lost part of his trigger finger in an accident which is why he was sent home early.  Smart guy, which is why we put him in the S-1 shop, did a great job.  Very proactive, took initiative and exerted his authority to a level two or three above what was expected for someone in his pay grade.  Anyway, he thanked me for guiding him and giving him the opportunity to learn so much during that time.  Little does he know, the opportunity wasn't by design, but I am glad that he took it as an opportunity to learn and grow as a Soldier instead of feeling put upon that he was asked to do something outside his MOS.

2. This is something that makes me scratch my head: why is it that I can't get into AKO using Firefox?  I have to use Internet Explorer but then I get half-a-dozen certificate errors.  I try and try to download the certificates, but every time I keep getting errors and have to tell IE to go ahead and go to AKO anyway.  Strange.

3.I'm going to post about my running and anything I feel like discussing running-wise over here: Run with Jack Army.  I want to keep this here blog primarily a Milblog with a smattering of current events/politics, particularly when I'm fully retired.  Since I'm getting more and more into running and such, and wanting to blog about it more and more, I figured a blog focusing on running would be more appropriate.  I'll let y'all that are checking in here know about some of the posts I'm putting up there, but not every single post, just the ones that I want more people to check out.

Personal Responsibility - You're Doing It Wrong!

People these days still don't get it.  Some weirdos are still singing that same old tired tune, "personal responsibility."

Well, they fail to realize that everything is someone else's fault.  And if you can't find a person to blame, then you default to technology.  Duh.

Need examples?  Ok, how about this one:

Lost Couple Can't Blame GPS, Air Force Says

Come on!  You mean to tell me that plunging down a road with a foot and a half of snow is not the GPS's fault?  What sane, rational person would do that without the GPS telling them to do so!  Get with the times, Air Force, of course it was the GPS's fault.

Example 2: the television remote control.  Before remotes, no fat people.  After, we are all blowing up!  Technology's fault, case closed.

Example 3:

Woman Found in Stolen Van Had Blood Alcohol Level of .708

There are multiple levels of "not-my-fault"-ness in this story.  If the maker of her drink of choice had had a lower alcohol content in said beverage, she wouldn't have been so drunk.  Also, if the owner of the van had been guarding it, she wouldn't have had the opportunity to steal it.  See how this works now?

Still not getting it?  Let's try one more:

Texas Assistant Principal Charged With Soliciting Sex From Students

This concerned administrator was not trying to just get into some girly's pants, he was offering extracurricular opportunities to practically apply the lessons taught in sex education class.  After all, putting a condom on a banana is barely realistic, right?  So, Ass. Principal McKinney shouldn't be blamed for the school district's failure to implement proper teaching methods.  Sheesh!

Alright.  Now that you understand the modern "its-not-my-fault" principle, go forth and apply it liberally to everything you do... or wanted to do but restrained yourself because you were practicing "personal responsibility."  Fool.

Football Uniforms

Via FoxNews:

The South Carolina and Maryland football teams will wear uniforms with camouflage designs for their games on Nov. 14, two days before Veterans Day.

Very Cool.

The black and tan camouflage uniforms, designed by Under Armour, will have a Wounded Warrior logo patch. The jerseys worn by the Gamecocks and Terrapins will have words such as courage, loyalty and integrity on their backs.

Disclosure: JILL ARMY graduated from UM.  I'd still think this was cool, though.

Advertising... or Turning Off?

One sure way to get me to ignore your advertisement, is to start it off with the words, "Obama says..."

Other than those official orders he gives as Commander-in-Chief, I'm not really interested in what he says.  I'm certainly not making decisions about life, education, careers or cars based on what he says!

So, ads like the one below on Facebook have the effect of turning me off instead of inspiring me to find out more about the product.

Hey, now might be a great time to get a degree, but Obama has no place in my decision-making about it!
